My Summer

During the last 3 summers while I’ve been a student at Kalamazoo I’ve worked as a carpenter for HEVCON, located mainly around Three Rivers and other St. Joseph county areas. I really enjoyed the satisfaction gained from starting construction on a home and seeing the progress every step of the way to its completion. Knowing that my two hands help build a home for a family was very fulfilling. My boss was a bit of a mentor in a way. We had many conversations regarding the economic side of carpentry. I enjoyed learning about all the financial steps it takes to build a house or barn, whether that be from the cost of materials and man hours, to the paperwork regarding inspections and electrician standards. It also prepared me to start looking into the economics of flipping houses for profit.

What's Next

I look forward to finishing out my final season as a collegiate athlete and the possible career paths that await given the multitude of connections I’ve gained at Kalamazoo.
