Four Kalamazoo College senior student-athletes from soccer, golf and cross country recognized their Most Valuable Professors this fall.

Collin Sweet of the men's soccer team selected Dr. Siu-Lan Tan from the psychology department. Collin appreciates that Dr. Tan makes what you learn inside the classroom applicable to real life with real world experiences outside of the classroom.

Cydney Martell of the women's golf team selected Dr. Regina Stevens-Truss of the chemistry department. Cydney said about Dr. Stevens-Truss: "She is dedicated and passionate towards helping students develop into confident and curious scientists. One of the most valuable things that Dr. Truss has taught me is that by developing a strong foundational knowledge I can attack complex and new problems. This has helped me in all my classes at K, as well as my SIP. Dr. Truss is my favorite professor because of her kindness. Her door is always open and she is willing to answer questions and I am forever grateful for her guidance."

Nick Ludka of the men's golf team selected Dr. Amanda Wollenberg of the biology department. Nick had this to say about Dr. Wollenberg: "My experience in Dr. Wollenberg's class was a driving factor for my summer SIP research. I was well prepared to talk about the complex field of immunology because of Dr. Wollenberg. She made a complicated subject fun and easy to learn and prepared us for the real-life independent bench work and hypothesis testing through the teaching lab."

Lauren Arquette of the women's cross country team selected Dr. Justin Berry of the political science department. Lauren had this to say about Dr. Berry: "Dr. Berry is well respected by many students of all political ideologies. Politics can get contentious and in every class he creates a climate of respect for all viewpoints. He has been very impactful as an academic advisor."

Each professor received a personalized letter and a plaque to honor their recognition.

Kalamazoo College senior student-athletes will recognize their Most Valuable Professors throughout the 2018-19 season.
