Alec Brooks graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 2014 with a degree in Literature and a concentration in Creative writing. He has great love for both sports and poetry and enjoys combining both in his writing. While at UC Santa Cruz he was the editor of the sports section for the school’s paper City on a Hill Press. He also published his sports writing in Good Times magazine and About Town magazine. In his senior year, he served as a scriptwriter and on-air sports anchor for the school’s campus television broadcast Banana Slug News.
Alec has competed in many slam poetry competitions and was
part of the UC Santa Cruz group Kinetic Poetics Project. In 2013,
he qualified to compete in the Santa Cruz poetry festival and won
third place in UCSC’s Golden Key Honor Society’s
writing contest.
Alec also loves to play and coach sports. He has played competetive basketball since he was five years old and coached AAU basketball for children between the ages of 9-11 with the San Diego Sharks, one of the top competitive youth basketball teams in Southern California.
