Baseball wins 5-3 over Sewanee

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team defeated Sewanee University 5-3 in the Hornets' first spring trip game on Friday.

Carter Chandler put the Hornets up 2-0 with a two RBI single in the top of the first. Chandler added a three run home run in the top of the fifth to give Kalamazoo a 5-1 lead.

Sewanee scored in the sixth to make it 5-2. The Tigers scored another run in the bottom of the ninth and had the bases loaded with two outs before Zack Cole came in and got a pop up on his first pitch for the final out.

Kalamazoo had eight hits compared to six for Sewanee.

Ty Rock (1-1) earned the win on the mound in three innings of relief. Cole earned the save.

Carter Chandler was 2-for-4 with five RBI. Marc Zughaib was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles while also getting hit twice. Zughaib and Scott Devine each had two stolen bases.

Kalamazoo returns to action with a 4 p.m. contest against RIT on Saturday.
