KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In the Kalamazoo College baseball home opener Tuesday afternoon, the Hornets defeated the visiting Albion College Britons 3-1 in game one of their doubleheader.

Jacob Gilhaus tossed a strong pitching performance from the mound for Kalamazoo limiting Albion to just their one run in his five innings of work. The reigning MIAA pitcher of the week, he surrendered just four hits and struck out three.

With the Hornets trailing 1-0 headed to the bottom of the fifth, Andre Gard's single to right field leveled the score before David Kracht drove in what proved to be the game-winning run later in the inning.

The Hornets were limited to just four hits but made the most of their opportunities. Ryan Orr closed the game for K, recorded the final two outs and earning the save.

Contrary from game one, the Hornet bats came to life in game two as the Hornets combined for 13 hits on the way to a 9-3 win and a series sweep.

Five different Hornets recorded multi-hit games in the second game of the day and Ian Kobernick's double in the bottom of the first moved him to the top of the career doubles list in Kalamazoo baseball history.

Nic Janssen provided six strong innings of work on his way to the win. He limited Albion to five hits while striking out two batters.

With the win, Kalamazoo improves to 11-2 overall in 2017 and 4-0 in the MIAA. The Hornets will continue MIAA play this Saturday when Adrian College visits Woodworth Field.
