OLIVET, Mich. – Ryan Orr seems to have Olivet's number.
After tossing a no-hitter a year ago on the road at Olivet, Orr put together a three-hit shutout Saturday afternoon on the same field as the Kalamazoo College baseball team won 3-0 in the first game of an MIAA doubleheader.
Orr struck out 11 Comets in seven innings of work and the Hornets backed their ace with runs in the first, third and sixth inning as they improved to 19-8 overall and 11-6 in league play.
Jack Clark wasted no time getting K on the board in the first as he singled to center field driving in Ian Kobernick who proved to be the game-winning run.
The Hornet bats were limited to just four hits, two of which came from Clark, in a game that sped along and took just one hour and 45 minutes to complete.
Game two proved to be quite the opposite of the first Saturday afternoon as the Hornet bats came to life recording 20 hits on the way to a 13-5 win.
Olivet jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the game's first inning but a six-run second inning from K, powered by a three-run shot from Kobernick, allowed Hornet starter Aaron Schwark to settle in on the mound. Schwark provided a quality start going six innings, allowing three runs—two earned—and struck out seven on the way to his third win of the season.
12 different Hornets recorded hits in game two, led once again by Clark who ended the second game 3-for-6. Jordan Wiley also went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Recording two-hit games for K were Connor Grant, Todd Bonnivier, Mitch VanKoevering and Alex Fultz.
The Hornets, in sole possession of second place in the MIAA, will wrap up their four-game series tomorrow afternoon with the Comets at Woodworth Field beginning at 1 p.m.
