KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team capped off a week in which it went 5-1 against conference competition today with a sweep of the MIAA Player of the Week awards with Ryan Orr winning the award for pitchers and Alex Fultz taking home the honor for position players.

Orr, a senior from DeWitt, kicked off the week with his second career no-hitter in a 7-0 victory over Albion. Orr is now the only Hornet to have thrown more than one no-hitter as he also blanked Olivet in 2016.

A preseason All-American utility player, Orr also started in left field for K during the week, recording at least one hit in five of the six games during the week and driving in a pair of runs in a 6-5 win over Calvin on Saturday. He also earned a win on the mound in two innings of relief.

Orr is 5-0 on the season which put him in a tie for second most wins in the MIAA this season and his 1.91 ERA is good for fourth in the conference. He currently leads his team in wins, strikeouts, ERA, and is second in innings pitched.

Named MIAA Co-Most Outstanding Pitcher last season, Orr is being recognized as MIAA Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season and fifth time in his decorated career.

Fultz, a junior from Warren, also started off the week with a bang, catching the no-hitter while going 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and five RBIs.

In the second game of that doubleheader he was 1-for-3 with double, three RBIs, a pair of walks, and scored three runs himself in a 17-9 win.

In a doubleheader Friday at Calvin he went 2-for-4 with an RBI in a first game loss and 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored in a 17-8 victory.

The series moved to Kalamazoo on Saturday, but Fultz's hot streak at the plate continued as he went 1-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBIs in another Kalamazoo victory.

Fultz is currently batting .329 at the plate and has driven in 24 runs which tied for third best in the conference. He leads Kalamazoo in doubles, is tied for the team lead in home runs, and is currently on an eight game hitting streak.

Fultz is being honored as MIAA Player of the Week for the second time in his career.

The Hornets travel to Alma for their next doubleheader on Saturday, April 28th with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
