Ryan Orr earned yet another honor as the senior was named NCAA Division III Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) following his outstanding performance last week.
Orr was named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week on Tuesday following his selection as MIAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
The senior was recognized by the NCBWA after throwing his second career no-hitter in a 7-0 win over Albion last Wednesday where he struck out nine while walking just one.
On Saturday Orr earned his second win of the week with two innings of no-hit relief work in Kalamazoo's 4-3 win over Calvin in extra innings. Orr finished the week not allowing a hit in nine innings of work while striking out 10 and walking one.
In addition to his work on the mound, Orr went 9-for-25 at the plate (.360) while also playing left field when not pitching.
Kalamazoo returns to action this Saturday, April 28 at Alma. The Hornets host Alma on Sunday, April 29 at 1 p.m.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters, and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Player of the Year Award, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
