Baseball splits doubleheader with Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a doubleheader with Alma College at Woodworth Field on Sunday. Alma won the opener 5-3 while Kalamazoo won the finale 6-5.

Game One

Kalamazoo scored a run in the first, but trailed 2-1 after five innings. Alma added two runs in the sixth, but Kalamazoo also scored two runs in the bottom half to keep it a one run game (4-3). Alma added a run in the seventh and held on for the 5-3 win.

Kalamazoo had nine hits in the game led by Jordan Wiley, Chase Coselman and Stefan Leclerc with two hits each. Wiley had two RBIs and also stole two bases.

Game Two

Kalamazoo led 2-1 after six innings when Alma took the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh. Kalamazoo again responded with three runs in the bottom half to regain the lead (5-4). Alma tied it up with a run in the top of the eighth, but Kalamazoo took the lead again (6-5) with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Alma was retired in order in the ninth to secure the win for the Hornets.

Chase Coselman had three hits including the game-winning RBI in the eighth.

Connor Grant also had three hits in the game. Jordan Wiley and Alex Fultz each had two hits including a double for Wiley. Andre Gard hit a home run.

Ryan Orr picked up the win in two innings of relief.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to return to action Wednesday, May 2 with a non-conference doubleheader against Rochester College beginning at 2 p.m.
