Baseball Defeats Olivet, Alma at MIAA Tournament

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team won both games today at the MIAA Tournament, defeating Olivet 18-4 before winning in a rematch against Alma.

Game One

Kalamazoo went up 1-0 in the first inning with a solo home run by Blake Bean. After an answering run by Olivet, the Hornets went on to score seven more times in the second frame and once in the fifth to make it 9-1. Despite more runs from the Comets, Kalamazoo continued its hot streak and scored four runs in the seventh and five in the last two innings for the 18-4 final score. It was the second-highest scoring game for the Hornets this season. 

Kalamazoo totaled 20 hits from ten different Hornets in today's game. Chase Coselman, Spencer Baldwin, Noah Hecht and Amani Karim all had three hits each. 

Blake Bean was 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Hecht had three hits including a triple and crossed home plate four times for Kalamazoo. 

Parker Sisovsky earned the win with five innings thrown, striking out five Olivet batters. 

Game Two

Kalamazoo won the second game, 8-5. They took a 3-0 lead when Spencer Baldwin and Austin Duff each came up with RBI hits in the top of the first. The Hornets added two runs in the second, one in the fourth and one run in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead over the Scots. Alma put up four runs in the sixth and seventh innings but were held off by Kalamazoo, who wrapped up the 8-5 win.

Spencer Baldwin led the Hornets in the afternoon game, going 4-for-5 at the plate with one double, one triple and three RBIs. He ended the day with seven hits and six RBIs. 

Blake Bean and Ben Chosid had two hits each, Bean scoring three runs and hitting a double while Chosid had one RBI and one double. 

Jack Brockhaus pitched the first six innings of the contest for the Hornets, striking out six. 

Up Next

Kalamazoo faces Adrian at 12 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets need to beat the Bulldogs twice to move on to the championship series.
