Three Hornets Earn ABCA All-Region Honors

Three Kalamazoo College baseball players earned 2021 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Mideast Region honors as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday.

Blake Bean and Doug Propson were selected to the All-Region Second Team while Jack Brockhaus was an All-Region Third Team selection. Three All-Region honorees marks the highest single-season total in Kalamazoo College baseball history.

Bean, a junior outfielder from Farmington Hills, Mich. (Orchard Lake St. Mary's), earned All-Region Second Team honors after earning All-MIAA First Team honors this season. Bean hit .385 this spring with 42 hits, eight doubles, two triples, seven home runs, and 26 RBIs. In addition to leading the team in home runs, Bean led the Hornets in runs scored (42) and walks (20).

Propson, a junior from Rochester, Mich. (Stoney Creek), was selected as the All-Region Second Team utility player. He was also selected as the All-MIAA First Team third baseman this season. As the Hornets' starting third baseman, Propson hit .358 this spring with 48 hits, 10 doubles, five triples, five home runs, and 32 RBIs. He led the team in triples and stolen bases (18). Propson also made 12 appearances on the mound resulting in a 3-1 record with a team-high four saves. He posted a 4.18 ERA with 41 strikeouts and just nine walks in 23.2 innings and was named MIAA Pitcher of the Week on March 29.

Brockhaus, a junior pitcher from Birmingham, Mich. (Brother Rice), earned All-Region Third Team honors after also earning All-MIAA First Team honors this year. He led the Hornets with a 7-1 record and one save in 11 appearances (10 starts) with two complete games. Brockhaus recorded two shutouts while striking out 55 and walking 17 in a team-high 55 innings pitched. He also earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors on March 22.

Kalamazoo's three All-Region honorees helped the Hornets to a 25-15 overall record, the second-highest win total in school history.
