Baseball Falls to (RV) Otterbein

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost the first game of its spring trip 15-6 to Otterbein University Thursday at Marietta College. Otterbein, receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, improved to 12-3 on the season. Kalamazoo fell to 3-3.

Kalamazoo led 4-3 after three innings after RBIs by Robert Newland and Cam Kelly (2) in the first, and Daniel Beccari in the third.

Otterbein scored five in the bottom of the fourth before adding four in the fifth to take a 12-4 lead. 

Ryar Rinehart homered in the top of the sixth to make it 12-5, but Otterbein added two more in the bottom half and another run in the eighth. Kalamazoo pushed one run across in the top of the ninth leading to the 15-6 final.

Otterbein scored 15 runs on 19 hits with five errors. Kalamazoo scored six runs on 10 hits with two errors.

David Stechow was 3-for-3.

Ryar Rinehart had two hits including a home run. Cam Kelly and Daniel Beccari each had a double. Alex Fenkell tripled.

Due to the weather forecast, the Hornets are now scheduled to play two games on Friday at Marietta. Kalamazoo will face Johnson & Wales at 4:15 p.m. followed by Marietta at 7:30 p.m.
