ROCKFORD, Ill. – Behind the production of a highly efficient offense, the Kalamazoo College football team paved the way to its second win of the season Saturday afternoon. The Hornets defeated Rockford University on the road, 55-19, while producing 597 yards of total offense.

Lorenzo Redmond got the scoring frenzy started early in the first quarter as he trotted into the endzone with 12:49 to play in the first to give Kalamazoo a 7-0 lead.

With the teams trading the next three scores and Kalamazoo clinging to a 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, 24 unanswered points spanning over the next 24 minutes of play gave Kalamazoo the separation it was looking for.

Alex White tossed three touchdown passes to three different receivers during the stretch. Dylan Padget, AJ Convertino and Anthony Giovanni all hauled in a TD. Viet Nguyen also converted on a 35-yard field goal.

After Rockford countered with a touchdown of its own, Kalamazoo strung together three more scores to close out the game. BJ Smith closed out the third quarter with a five-yard touchdown catch from Zak Zagon off a bad snap on a field goal attempt.

In the fourth, Nguyen tacked on his second field goal of the game and Brock Rucinski capped off the emphatic win with an 11-yard run with 2:33 to play.

White played a key role in the Hornets' offensive success on the afternoon as he ended his day completing 27-of-42 passes for 372 yards and four touchdowns. He also led the Hornets with 50 rushing yards on 10 attempts.

Seth Dexter led the receiving corps recording eight receptions for 104 yards.

Defensively, Sean Bauer led the way with nine tackles and one pass breakup. Jake Sypnieski and Andrew Thiede each forced fumbles in the game.

With the win, Kalamazoo improves to 2-1 on the season. The Hornets will have two weeks to prepare for their MIAA opener on Oct. 1 against Alma at Angell Field.
