Football loses MIAA opener to Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team losts its MIAA opener 56-26 to Alma College at Angell Field.

The scoring was fast and furious with three touchdowns in the first five minutes as Alma took a 14-7 lead.

Alma scored two touchdowns early in the second quarter to take a 28-7 lead, but a Kalamazoo field goal and touchdown made it a 28-17 game with 4:20 left in the half. The Scots scored with 50 seconds remaining to take a 35-17 lead into halftime.

Alma went up 42-17 on a 79-yard touchdown less than a minute into the third quarter. 

Kalamazoo scored midway through the fourth and followed with a blocked punt that resulted in a safety to make it a 42-26 game, but two fourth quarter touchdowns sealed the win for the Scots.

Alex White finished 24-of-47 passing for 359 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Collin Feilla hauled in nine catches for 215 yards and two scores. Zak Zagon added 90 yards on seven catches.

Lorenzo Redmond rushed for 53 yards on 15 carries.

Quentin Sweeney led the Hornet defense with 12 total tackles and a sack. Sean Bauer made nine tackles while Joe Piet was credited with seven. Andrew Thiede and Matt Burczyk were also in on a sack.

Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 8 at Olivet.
