Football drops Homecoming game to Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its Homecoming game 42-17 to Trine on Saturday.

Trine got on the board first with 8:02 left in the first quarter, but the Hornets evened the score a couple minutes later with Alex White's 9-yard touchdown run. Trine scored again with 1:42 left in the quarter to take a 14-7 lead.

The visiting Thunder scored twice in the first four minutes of the second quarter to take a 28-7 lead before Viet Nguyen's 33-yard field goal made it a 28-10 game.

Trine scored two more times in the final four minutes of the quarter to take a 42-10 lead into halftime.

The second half was scoreless until 4:06 left in the fourth quarter when Kalamazoo's Brock Rucinski connected with Ethan Kubik on a 5-yard touchdown pass to make it 42-17, the eventual final score.

Trine put up 562 yards of total offense while limiting Kalamazoo to 350.

Alex White was 18-of-46 passing for 210 yards with an interception. Brock Rucinski finished 3-of-4 for 40 yards in relief.

White led all Kalamazoo runners with 44 yards on 14 carries. Jared Pittman rushed for 25 yards while Lorenzo Redmond picked up 22.

Seth Dexter led all receivers with 10 catches for 142 yards.

Quentin Sweeney led the defense with 10 tackles while Clayton Meldrum finished with seven. BJ Smith had six tackles with an interception.

Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 22 with a 6 p.m. start at Adrian.
