Football loses MIAA opener at Alma

ALMA, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its MIAA opener 30-10 at Alma College on Saturday.

Alma led 13-0 midway through the first quarter before Kalamazoo got on the board with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Alex White to Anthony Giovanni.

The host Scots made it 20-7 early in the second quarter before Kalamazoo made it 20-10 with a 35-yard field goal by Greg Kearns with 5:00 left in the half. Alma scored again with 38 seconds remaining to take a 27-10 lead into the break.

Alma added a touchdown midway through the third quarter and held the 30-10 lead through the end.

Alex White was 15-of-26 passing for 100 yards while also rushing for 42 yards.

Seth Dexter led the receivers with four catches for 43 yards. Zak Zagon (25 yards) and Jared Pittman (13 yards) also had four receptions each.

Quentin Sweeney led the defense with 15 total tackles. Clay Wilkey finished with 14 while Jakob Frederick had 13. Noah Coplan recorded a sack while DeShawn Moore and Keigan Ryckman each had an interception.

Kalamazoo returns home to face Olivet next Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.
