Football wins 13-6 at Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College football team won 13-6 in nonconference action at Rockford University on Saturday.

Greg Kearns kicked a pair of 30-yard field goals in the first quarter to give Kalamazoo a 6-0 advantage, a lead the Hornets would maintain through the third quarter.

Rockford scored a touchdown early in the fourth quarter (11:12), but missed the extra point which kept the score tied at 6-6.

Kalamazoo pulled ahead with Alex White's 5-yard touchdown run with 6:58 remaining. The touchdown capped off a 10-play, 63-yard drive and proved to be the game-winner.

Rockford had a chance to tie or go ahead as the Regents drove to the Kalamazoo 15-yard line, but Jake Osen's interception in the end zone on fourth down secured the win for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo put up 378 yards of total offense while limiting Rockford to 279 yards.

Kalamazoo rushed for 277 yards as a team, highlighted by Jared Pittman's career-high 170 yards on 27 carries. Pittman's total matches the sixth-highest amount in a game in school history.

Alex White was 16-of-25 passing for 101 yards while also gaining 59 yards on the ground.

Five Hornets each had three receptions: Anthony Giovanni (33 yards), Dylan Padget (22 yards), Zak Zagon (18 yards), Jared Pittman (10 yards), CJ Foster (7 yards). Foster also had 33 yards rushing.

Clay Wilkey led the Hornet defense with 10 total tackles. Quentin Sweeney finished with nine while Jakob Frederick has six with two tackles for loss. Ryan Andrusz and Noah Coplan had five tackles apiece while combining for two sacks.

Kalamazoo finishes up the season next Saturday, Nov. 11 at Albion.
