KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team remained undefeated with a 17-10 win over Alma on Homecoming Saturday. The Hornets are 7-0 for just the fourth time in school history and the first time since 1962.

Lightning in the area delayed the kickoff one hour and 10 minutes. Once storms finished rolling through the area, the weather remained rainy, cold and windy.

Alma got on the board first with a field goal late in the first quarter.

Kalamazoo evened the score with Greg Kearns' 42-yard field goal less than a minute into the second quarter.

The defensive battle continued through the end of the half with the score tied 3-3.

After a scoreless third quarter, Kalamazoo scored a touchdown with 8:55 left in the fourth when Zach VanFaussien connected with Dylan Padget for three yards.

The Hornet defense forced Alma to punt on the ensuing possession and Kalamazoo's Nick Lang blocked the punt while Jacob Chantres recovered in the end zone for a touchdown to put the Hornets up 17-3 with 8:00 remaining.

Alma finally scored a touchdown with 1:23 left, but the Scots' onside kick was recovered by Kalamazoo and the Hornets ran out the clock to secure the win.

Kalamazoo finished with 234 yards of total offense while holding Alma to 230.

Zach VanFaussien was 11-of-23 passing for 73 yards.

Jared Pittman led the Hornets in rushing with 76 yards on 14 carries. VanFaussien added 54 yards on 14 carries while CJ Foster had 40 yards on nine carries.

Ethan Kubik made three catches for 32 yards while Dylan Padget had three catches for 13 yards. Foster had 11 yards on two catches.

Jakob Frederick led the Hornet defense with 10 total tackles. Joe Piet finished with nine while Jacob Chantres, Matt Ford and Taylor Jackson each had eight.

Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 27 at Olivet.
