Football Drops Home Opener to Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its home opener 13-0 to Alma College at Angell Field on Saturday.

Alma took a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter. The Scots made it 10-0 with a fieldgoal at the end of the first half. Alma went up 13-0 with a field goal early in the fourth quarter and held on for the shutout.

Kalamazoo put up 221 yards of total offense while holding Alma to 216 yards. Kalamazoo turned the ball over five times while gaining one possession on an Alma fumble.

Brad Ekonen was 15-for-33 passing for 126 yards. Brendan Gausselin was 11-for-20 and 62 yards.

Bubba Wilson led the receivers with 71 yards on 11 catches. Pierce Burke, Jon Brunette, and Andrew Widger each made three catches. 

Jon Brunette rushed for 44 yards on 13 carries.

Taylor Jackson led the Hornet defense with 13 total tackles. Jacob Chantres had 10 tackles. Justin Negrete and Nate Micallef were each credited with a sack.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to play again next Saturday, April 3 at Albion.
