Jonah Spates of the Kalamazoo College football team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Nov. 1).

The Hornets traveled to Hope for their last road game of the season and fell to the Flying Dutchmen 66-20. Kalamazoo had 321 yards of offense, but Hope totaled 604, with 382 coming in the air and 222 on the ground, to upend the Hornets.

Fleming was a bright spot for the Hornets, totaling 164 of the 321 yards for the Hornet offense. This performance was Spates' first-career 100-yard game from a career-high 14 catches. His touchdown catch came in the fourth quarter, for Kalamazoo's third touchdown of the game, on a 39-yard strike from Josh Nichols. The 164 yards receiving is the most for a Hornet since Collin Feilla had 216 against Oberlin on Sept. 3, 2016.

In his second season at Kalamazoo, Spates leads the receiving core with 49 catches for 517 yards. He has scored three touchdowns, with his longest reception being the latest one this past week. In 19 games for his career, Spates has 71 catches for 687 yards and three touchdowns.

Kalamazoo will return to play their regular season finale on Nov. 12 against Trine following a week off this week.
