Men's Basketball takes on WMU in exhibition

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team traveled down the street to take on Division I Western Michigan University in an exhibition contest at University Arena on Saturday. Despite a close score early, the host Broncos won the contest, 87-61.

Kalamazoo trailed by just four (12-8) after six minutes of play, but the Hornets ended up trailing 39-17 at halftime.

Kalamazoo was within 21 points (67-46) with 8:36 remaining, but could not get any closer down the stretch.

The Hornets shot 42.2 percent overall while hitting 8-of-14 3's and 15-of-21 free throws. Western Michigan shot 43.3 percent overall, made 13-of-35 3's and 16-of-28 free throws. WMU held a 41-34 advantage in rebounds, including 18-7 on the offensive end.

Roger Hood led Kalamazoo with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Charlie Carson scored eight points while sinking 5-of-6 free throws. Jimmy Paprocki scored six points with five rebounds.

Kalamazoo opens the regular season against Manchester University on Friday, Nov. 17 at Anderson (Ind.).
