Men's Basketball knocks off St. Francis

Tanner Blyly playing basketball.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team picked up its second victory of the season Wednesday night with an 81-60 win over St. Francis (Ill.).

Kalamazoo started off the game strong as Ben Reiter knocked down a three pointer in the first minute to open the scoring for the Hornets. St. Francis stayed within striking distance in the opening minutes, but a strong defensive effort from the Hornets helped them build a lead throughout the first half. Jack Smith finished off a steal with a dunk and Roger Hood blocked a St. Francis shot before collecting the ball and going coast-to-coast for a layup to help K take a 14 point lead into halftime.

The Hornets continued to shoot the ball well in the second half as Tanner Blyly scored 13 of his game-high 15 points in the period. Kalamazoo went on a 10-0 run with eight minutes remaining in the game to end any hope of a St. Francis comeback and secure the victory.

The Hornet offense looked sharp throughout the game as Kalamazoo shot 46.6 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from three point range and five K players scored in double figures. The Hornets also attacked the offensive glass to the tune of 17 second chance points on the evening.

In addition to Tanner Blyly's big night, Ben Reiter finished with 12 points and seven rebounds and freshman Jack Smith chipped in 11 points off of the bench.

Kalamazoo will take on Case Western Reserve in its next game on Saturday, December 9th with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Anderson Athletic Center.
