Men's Basketball drops MIAA opener

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost its MIAA opener 78-43 inside Anderson Athletic Center on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo scored the first seven points of the game, but Alma recovered to even the score at 10-10 with 12:00 left in the first half. The Scots took their first lead of the game 26 seconds later and slowly pulled away to a 30-19 lead at halftime. 

Alma shot 48.3 percent overall while limiting Kalamazoo to 33.3 percent, including just 1-of-14 3's. The Scots made 13-of-24 free throws compared to 8-of-21 for the Hornets. Alma held a 40-39 edge in rebounds despite Kalamazoo outrebounding Alma 11-8 on the offensive end.

Jeremiah Vincent led Kalamazoo with 12 points and five rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting.

Jarnard Smith added 10 points off the bench while Jimmy Paprocki scored eight and Ben Reiter added six.

Kalamazoo returns to action at home against Hope College this Saturday, Jan. 6 at 3 p.m.
