ANGOLA, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team picked up a big road win on Wednesday knocking off fourth-place Trine University 70-63.
Kalamazoo scored the first 10 points of the game and held the host Thunder scoreless through the first six minutes. Trine recovered and scored 16 straight points to take a 16-10 lead with eight minutes left in the half. Kalamazoo evened the score at 23-23 with 3:04 remaining before taking a 31-26 lead into halftime.
Kalamazoo led by as many as 13 points (45-32) with 12:53 left in the second half before Trine used a 16-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 48-47 lead. The score was tied 51-51 with 5:54 remaining before Kalamazoo regained the lead (54-51) with 4:40 remaining and held on to the end.
Kalamazoo shot 47.8 percent overall while making 19-of-25 free throws. Trine shot 33.8 percent with 15-of-20 at the line. The Hornets held a 37-34 advantage in total rebounds despite Trine's 15-7 advantage on the offensive end.
Jimmy Paprocki led the Hornets with 24 points and eight rebounds on 9-of-12 shooting with six free throws.
Tanner Blyly added 14 points while Jack Smith scored 10 in 28 minutes off the bench.
Roger Hood scored seven points while leading the team with 11 rebounds.
Kalamazoo closes out the 2018 season at home against Adrian on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m.
