BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's golf team shot a 300 on Friday at the Battle Creek Country Club, the third best score on the first day of the two day MIAA Fall Finish.
Kalamazoo was just three strokes out of first place behind Calvin (297) and Hope (298) on Friday. The MIAA fall season wraps up with another 18 holes Saturday starting at 10 a.m. The top four teams in the fall advance to the MIAA Spring Qualifier to determine the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships.
David Smith tied for fifth overall on Friday with a 73. Phil Ritchie and Travis Veenhuis tied for eighth with rounds of 74.
Nick Ludka rounded out the top four with a 79.
Kalamazoo finished fourth in the MIAA last fall to advance to the MIAA Spring Qualifier for the first time in school history. Kalamazoo entered Friday's round in second place, one stroke ahead of Calvin.
