After the inaugural season for Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse in 2016, the Hornets begin the 2017 season on Saturday, Feb. 25 under the direction of head coach Vince Redko hoping to build off their first year.

Six different Hornets recorded double digit point totals in 2016 and four of those six players return for the Hornets in 2017 led by Clapton Marquis. Limited to just eight games last season, Marquis led the attack for K with 10 goals and seven assists for a team-high 17 points. Hans Wieland also returns to the attack with Marquis after scoring a team-high 12 goals. He recorded two assists.

Brett Fitzgerald headlines the middies returning to K this season after starting 12 games in 2016 while recording nine goals and two assists. Fitzgerald took the majority of faceoffs for Kalamazoo, winning 61 of 126.

Defensively, Zach Morales recorded the most ground balls of all returners with 49 last season. He also contributed in the attack with 11 goals and three assists while starting all 13 games.

Seven freshmen join the fold this spring and the Hornets will likely look to first-year Nate Silverman to take over between the pipes.

Starting the 2016 season 3-1 in non-conference play, Kalamazoo will look to replicate its early success of last season against DePauw on Saturday at MacKenzie Field. The Hornets begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on April 8 when they travel to Albion.
