KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team lost a double overtime thriller Friday evening at MacKenzie Field in non-conference play against the visitors from Heidelberg University. The Student Princes defeated the Hornets, 6-5.

Kalamazoo managed to build a two-goal cushion heading into halftime much in part due to the play of Brett Fitzgerald in the game's first 30 minutes. Fitzgerald contributed in the Hornets' first three goals assisting on the first and scoring the team's second and third allowing K to hold a 4-2 edge at the break.

Heidelberg cut the Hornets' lead to one scoring the only goal in the third quarter but Clapton Marquis gave K the two-goal buffer once again with 7:57 to go in the final quarter.

After the Student Princes got within one at the 6:08 mark in the fourth quarter, it looked as if K would walk away with a 5-4 win before Heidelberg snuck a ball into the net with just eight seconds remaining.

Heidelberg's Patrick McCarthy went on to score the winning goal in the second overtime period.

Kalamazoo recorded 13 shots on goal compared to Heidelberg's 12 despite being outshot overall 42-28.

The Hornets will take a week off for finals before traveling to Oglethorpe for a 4 p.m. game on March 18.
