KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team came within 15 minutes of sending its two seniors off with a win Saturday afternoon at MacKenzie Field, but the Hornets fell in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action, 10-5, to Calvin College.

Hans Wieland kicked things off on a positive note for the Hornets giving K an early 1-0 five minutes into the first quarter.

Down 2-1 after the first quarter, the Hornets took advantage of an extra-man opportunity early in the second quarter on a goal from Harrison Ramsey. Senior Clapton Marquis assisted on the play. Calvin added one more before halftime, holding a slight 3-2 edge at the break.

It was Kalamazoo who controlled the third quarter, though, getting goals from Wieland, Ramsey and Brett Fitzgerald allowing them to head to the fourth quarter in a 5-5 deadlock with the Knights.

But it was all Calvin in the final period. The Knights took advantage of an extra-man opportunity scoring two goals with the advantage early in the quarter on the way to five unanswered goals.

Wieland and Ramsey recorded two goals each for the Hornets. Joe Edwards and senior Blake Beauchamp each picked up four ground balls for K.

With the result today, the Hornets end the 2017 season with four wins and enter their third year as a varsity program in 2018.
