GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team dropped its season opener on the road Saturday at DePauw by a score of 22-3.
DePauw jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Brandon Wright broke through for Kalamazoo's first goal of the game with nine minutes remaining in the first half. Jack Smith pulled another goal back for K with an unassisted tally just before the break to make the score 9-2 at the half.
DePauw scored 10 unanswered goals to start the second half to take a 19-2 lead. With 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter Jack Smith wrapped up the scoring for Kalamazoo with his second goal of the game.
Zach Morales led K with six ground balls in the game and Brandon Wright led the Hornets with seven shots.
DePauw outshot K 63-17 and had six players score multiple goals with Ben Sherman leading all players with five goals.
Tim Grobosky took the loss in goal for K, but set a new school record for saves in a game with 23 saves in the contest.
The Hornets will play their first home game on Wednesday, February 28th against Benedictine at 6 p.m.
