Men's Lacrosse has record-setting night

Men's lacrosse team celebration.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team had a record-setting night offensively on Tuesday, taking down Adrian 20-4 at MacKenzie Field.

The Hornets scored first, but trailed 2-1 at the end of the first quarter. They would never trail again as they exploded for eight goals in the second period. Six different K players found the back of the net in the quarter to head into halftime ahead 9-3.

Kalamazoo picked up right where it left off in the third quarter with three straight goals to open the half. The Bulldogs finally broke their scoring drought with just over three minutes remaining in the third to bring the score to 12-4. That would be it for Adrian, however, as the Hornets closed the game with eight straight goals, including outscoring Adrian 6-0 in the fourth quarter.

Kalamazoo outshot Adrian 53-20 on its way to a program record 20 goals in the game.

The Bulldogs were hampered in the contest by 17 penalties, resulting in over 15 minutes of power play time for Kalamazoo which the Hornets turned into five man up goals.

Brandon Wright was outstanding for K, tying a program single-game record with five goals while also picking up eight ground balls and causing a turnover.

Jack Smith was another standout, scoring four goals and tying the program single-game record record with four assists. All in all, eight Hornets found the back of the net, including a hat trick for Brett Fitzgerald and freshman Dustin Tibbetts' first career goal.

Tim Grobosky made six saves to earn the win in goal.

Kalamazoo will wrap up the season at home on Saturday, April 28th at 7 p.m.
