GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team was defeated 14-7 by Calvin University on Saturday (Apr. 13).
It was all Calvin in the first two quarters, as Kalamazoo found itself in an 8-0 hole at the 5:23 mark in the second quarter. The Hornets were able to score a goal in the first half and trailed 8-1 at halftime.
The third quarter did not fare much better for Kalamazoo, as the Knights scored four of the six goals in the frame to lead 12-3. The Hornets did put away four goals compared to Calvin's two in the fourth quarter.
Calvin outshot Kalamazoo 45-26 overall, 29-12 on goal. Calvin held a 66-58 advantage in ground balls, and a 13-11 edge in faceoffs won.
Eli Routt led the Hornets with three goals, and Cam VanGalder scored twice. Mike Hume and Ethan Huebsch each scored a goal.
Colby Skinner led the defense with 10 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Ronin Honda and Oskar Sears had five ground balls a piece, and Jack Bungart also forced four turnovers.
Dylan Wickey made 15 saves in goal and had 11 ground balls.
Kalamazoo returns to action with a home game against Adrian on Wednesday, Apr. 17, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at MacKenzie Field.
