ANGOLA, Ind. – Looking to climb the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association table Saturday, the Kalamazoo College men's soccer team got the exact result it needed as the Hornets defeated Trine University, 2-0, on the road.

The Hornets got themselves off to a positive start in the first half as Cal Kirchen, who scored 14 goals in 2015, found the back of the net in just the seventh minute of play. Joshua Robison recorded the assist on the goal.

Kalamazoo entered the second half of play holding a 5-3 advantage in shots and the Hornets continued to press and carry play throughout. Ten minutes into the second half the Hornets earned a penalty and Kyle Hernandez calmly gave Kalamazoo its definitive two-goal advantage.

Hernandez led the Hornets offensively with two shots placed on frame. Kirchen recorded three total shots with his goal the lone shot on frame.

Griffin Hamel made six saves in the match to earn his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Kalamazoo, now 1-1-2 in the MIAA, will head home this Tuesday, Sept. 27 for a home match with Adrian College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
