KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team was well represented on the All-MIAA teams announced today with Ryan Melgar being named All-MIAA First Team as well as conference Newcomer of the Year and Nick Kraeuter, Thomas Bryant, and Griffin Hamel all being named All-MIAA Second Team.

Melgar, a freshman midfielder from Portage, was a consistent presence on the field for the Hornets as he started every game this season. He led the team in number of offensive categories including goals (6), points (12), shots on goal (20), and game winning goals (4). These totals were not just good enough for All-MIAA First Team selection as Melgar was also recognized by the coaches as MIAA Newcomer of the Year.

Kraeuter, a sophomore from Jackson, was also a starter in every game for K this season and his two goals and consistent defending in the midfield made him a player that the Hornets always had to have on the field. He is being honored as All-MIAA Second Team for the first time in his career.

Bryant wraps up his three year varsity career at K with his first All-MIAA Second Team selection. A forward from Kalamazoo, Bryant finished the season with four goals and nine points, both of which were second best on the team. Two of those goals were game winners that came in the final two minutes or overtime in consecutive wins over Trine and Hope which earned him MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season.

Hamel, a senior goalkeeper from Bloomfield Hills, also wraps up an outstanding career with his first selection to the All-MIAA Second Team. A starter in goal for K for the last three seasons, Hamel has been a two-time MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honoree. This season he started 17 games for the Hornets and recorded a 1.09 goals against average in conference play as well as four shutouts. 

Coach Lumumba Shabazz said, "Congratulations to Ryan, Griffin, Nick, and Tom on their All-MIAA conference awards. These awards are a culmination of their hard work, their drive to succeed, and their earnest effort to improve themselves as both athletes and young men. For Griffin and Tom in particular, this cements their legacy as all-time contributors here within our program and college. For Ryan and Nick, this is a clear indication to all of the other young men in our program about what is truly possible when you're committed to bringing your best effort each day. This is a wonderful achievement and I salute them all."

Kalamazoo finished the season in third place in the MIAA with an overall record of 8-8-2 and a conference record of 7-6-1.
