KALAMAZOO, Mich. - In a release by the MIAA on Monday afternoon, defender Ben Meschke was honored as the league's Defensive Player of the Week.

Meschke, a senior from Williamston, Mich. (Okemos HS), put on a strong defensive showing for the Hornets in their 1-0 win over Albion in the season opener.

Playing in every minute of the contest, Meschke also scored the lone goal of the match in the 52nd minute off an assist by Alex Wallace

Meschke totaled eight shots attempted, nearly 50 percent of Kalamazoo's 17 shots in-game. With the help of the rest of the defense, the Hornets held Albion to just two shots on goal during the contest.

Meschke led Kalamazoo in 2019 with 14 goals totaled and 29 points. He was named to the All-MIAA First Team at the conclusion of the season and made the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team.

The Hornets are scheduled to play next against Alma at home on March 30.
