ALMA, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team traveled to face Alma in an MIAA match-up on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 15). After battling through 80 scoreless minutes with the Scots, the Hornets netted a game-winner in the 81st minute off the foot of Chad Ewing for the 1-0 win.

It was a defensive struggle for the first 45 minutes of the game as the teams combined for three total shots. Kalamazoo and Amla battled for possession in the midfield to try and get some offense going, but the score remained tied at zero at halftime.

The tide turned in favor of the Hornets in the second half as the offense started gaining opportunities. Kalamazoo went from one shot in the first half to 10 in the second, and one of them ended up being the game-winner. In the 81st minute, Travis Barclay set up the goal with a feed to Chad Ewing that he buried in the back of the net. This score was Ewing's second goal in as many games for the Hornets, as the contest ended in a 1-0 victory.

Gavin Houtkooper made two saves in his third shutout of the season. Kalamazoo finished with more shots (11-5), corner kicks (6-2), and fouls (14-10), while Alma had more saves (7-2).

The Hornets will next host Adrian on Wednesday (Oct. 15) at MacKenzie Field, beginning at 7 p.m.
