KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team hosted Albion on Tuesday evening (Oct. 22) for the regular season finale and senior night. The Hornets netted the first goal of the game in the first half, but a Briton goal in the second half tied the game up and produced a 1-1 draw. The seniors honored before the game for their play here at Kalamazoo were Travis Barclay, Aidan Gillig, Paul Kearis, Emilio Romo, Damian Valdes, and Tony Yazbeck

As the rain fell for most of the first half, the Hornets took advantage of the weather and possessed the ball in their offensive zone for much of the first 45 minutes. Kalamazoo had eight shots compared to Albion's three, and one of them was true in the 33rd minute as the Hornets struck first. Colin Halloran skipped a pass along the turf from the far left sideline that went all the way to the back post. Waiting there was Jordon Larco as his right-footed shot went past the goalkeeper in the lower right corner. This was Larco's first career goal and gave Kalamazoo the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

With the skies clearing up in the second half, the play became more even between the two teams. Then, in the 51st minute, the Hornets were whistled for a foul about 35 yards away from the goal on the right side. A Briton stepped up to the ball and hit a fantastic shot that sailed into the top left corner of the net for the equalizer. As much as the Hornets pushed to get the second goal, the game ended in a tie for the sixth time this season.

Gavin Houtkooper made one save on two chances throughout the game. Kalamazoo finished with more shots (13-7) and corner kicks (4-2), while Albion had more saves (4-1) and fouls (11-10).

The Hornets have qualified for the MIAA Tournament as the fifth seed and will play on Saturday (Oct. 29). Kalamazoo will likely face the Britons again, but official opponents and times will be announced tomorrow at 9 a.m.
