The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team had six players selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday (Nov. 15). The student-athletes selected were Travis Barclay, Luke Bormann, Gavin Houtkooper, Jake Lynett, Evan Pollens-Voigt, and Tony Yazbeck.

To be selected for the award, the student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, played at least 50% of their team's competitions, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Barclay helped anchor the defensive as the right back in all 19 games, including 15 starts. Offensively, he chipped in with three assists on the season with his crosses into the box. He currently has a 3.87 cumulative GPA and is majoring in psychology.

Also in the back line was Bormann, appearing in 18 games with 13 starts. He helped the defense limit opponents to one goal a game this season. He is a double major in business and mathematics and has a 3.57 GPA.

Houtkooper was the leading man in the net, making 16 starts and playing 1,460 minutes. He had a 1.17 goals-against average, a .712 save percentage, 47 saves, and four shutouts. He sports a perfect 4.00 GPA while majoring in business.

At the left back of the Kalamazoo defense was Lynett, who had 18 appearances with 14 starts. He was also consistently aggressive in pushing the ball up the field for offensive opportunities. He also majors in business with a 3.96 GPA.

Pollens-Voigt is the final piece of the defensive unit for the Hornets, playing in all 19 games with 17 starts. He was a big part of setting the wall to keep pressure off the Kalamazoo goalkeepers. He has yet to decide on a major but has accumulated a 3.82 GPA.

In the midfield, Yazbeck was an intricate part of keeping the ball moving as he appeared in all 19 games with 16 starts. He finished with a goal and an assist on the season. Majoring in biology-chemistry, he has a cumulative 3.96 GPA.

Now that the six student-athletes have made the district team, they will move on to the CSC Academic All-American ballot, which will be announced in early December.
