Matt Howrey was selected as the Kalamazoo College Athletic Leadership Council's men's Hornet of the Week for the fourth week of the fall season.

Howrey, a sophomore from Keller, Texas (Keller HS), competed in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America's Collegiate National Open Water Championship at Lone Star Lake on Saturday.

Howrey finished 50th overall with a time of 1:10:03 in the 5K event. His time was sixth best among Division III swimmers. He became the first Kalamazoo College swimmer to compete in the event. 

The men's swimming and diving team will open the season on Oct. 20 at Saginaw Valley State.
