Sharif Shaker of the Kalamazoo College men's swimming and diving team was named Hornet of the Week by the Athletic Leadership Council for his efforts at the team's season opening event.
Shaker, a senior from Castro Valley, Calif. (Fame Public Charter HS), 100 backstroke with a time of :54.41 and the 200 backstroke at 1:59.63.
Shaker is also a member of the 200 medly relay team and his split was the fastest of the meet.
The men's swimming and diving team returns to action next Friday, Oct. 26 at the MIAA Relays hosted by Hope before hosting Albion on Saturday, Oct. 27.
