KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Sam Ankley was recognized as an All-American by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the 2020-21 season.

The sophomore from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Kalamazoo Central HS) was recognized as a DIII All-American in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Ankley was also named All-MIAA and the league's Co-Most Valuable Diver at the conclusion of the season.

Ankley placed second in the 1-meter dive at the MIAA Championships in March. He also finished second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 486.80. Ankley had the highest combined diving score through 22 dives on both boards.

Previously Ankley has been named an Honorable Mention Scholar All-American by the CSCAA. He is a five-time MIAA Diver of the Week, two-time All-MIAA honoree and was a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll in 2019-20.

"This was a huge accomplishment considering the obstacles we faced this year," Diving Coach Kyle Oberhill said. "We only were able to train three times a week, so for [Ankley] to battle through that and have such a great performance on both boards speaks volumes to his mental toughness, work ethic and character. He's continuing the legacy of Kalamazoo College Diving and we look forward to the next chapter for him."

"Sam's season is one of the most impressive I have ever seen," Head Coach Jay Daniels commented. "His mental fortitude and resilience was truly inspiring. I'm very proud of him."
