Branden Metzler falls in round of 32 at NCAA III Men's Tennis Individual Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Kalamazoo men's tennis player Branden Metzler saw his freshman campaign come to an end Thursday, May 22 with a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Abhishek Alla of Carnegie Mellon University. 

Metzler finishes the season with a 16-7 overall record including a 13-5 mark in dual meets at first singles. The Rockford, Ill. native is currently ranked No. 4 in the Central Region by itatennis.com. The ITA's final rankings come out June 10. 

Metzler, who was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) Most Valuable Player, helped K win its 76th consecutive MIAA title. Kalamazoo also qualified for the NCAA III Men's Tennis Championships for the 39th straight season. The Hornets are only program to qualify for every championship since the tournament began in 1976.

The last Kalamazoo men's tennis player to win the NCAA III Men's Tennis Individual Championships was Seth Denawitz in 1994.
