Men's Tennis sweeps Wheaton in 2017 opener

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team defeated Wheaton College (IL) 9-0 in the 2017 opener in the Markin Center on Saturday.

Kalamazoo swept the three doubles points before winning all six singles matches, including five in straight sets.

Branden Metzler and Elan Dantus won 8-5 at one doubles. Zack Ray and Eric De Witt teamed up for an 8-3 win at two while Allen Vinson and Daniel Henry won 8-4 at three.

Metzler, ranked No. 15 in Division III singles, defeated No. 37 Justin Ancona 7-5, 6-4 at one singles.

Henry, De Witt, Dantus and Vinson won in straight sets at two, four, five and six singles, respectively. Noah Karoub won 4-6, 7-5, 10-4 at three singles.

Kalamazoo entered the match ranked No. 36 in Division III and No. 10 in the Central Region. Wheaton was ranked No. 17 in the region.

Kalamazoo returns to action Sunday at 2 p.m. against Kenyon in the Markin Center. That match follows the women's match with Kenyon at 10 a.m.
