KALAMAZOO, Mich. – For the fourth consecutive year, Branden Metzler has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's men's tennis most valuable player. He headlines a group of five players who were named to either the MIAA's First or Second Teams.

Joining Metzler on the First Team is freshman Daniel Henry and junior Elan Dantus. Named to the second team were senior Eric De Witt and sophomore Allen Vinson.

Metzler, a senior from Rockford, Ill., went 23-1 overall this season and finished with a perfect 5-0 conference record in singles. He finished the regular season with an 18-4 doubles record. Heading into postseason play, he holds a career singles record of 85-16. He was the national runner-up in the NCAA tournament in 2016.

Henry, a native of Kalamazoo, burst onto the scene as a freshman this year compiling a 19-4 singles record and a 16-4 doubles record. He was named the MIAA's Player of the Week twice, once in February and again in mid-April.

Rounding out the First Team selections was Dantus, a junior from Okemos. Dantus compiled a 14-7 singles record throughout the season and played side-by-side with Metzler on the doubles court, going 18-4. He was also an MIAA First Team selection in 2016.

De Witt, a senior from Haslett, put together an impressive 16-3 singles campaign in 2017 playing primarily three and four singles for the Hornets. Heading into the postseason he boasts a 53-18 career singles record. This is the third consecutive season De Witt's been named to the league's Second Team.

Vinson, a sophomore from Tallahassee, Fla., is making his second appearance in as many seasons on the MIAA's Second Team. Playing the majority of time at five singles, Vinson compiled a total singles record of 15-3 in 2017. He went 14-5 in doubles playing alongside Henry.

The Hornets begin postseason play tomorrow, May 4, when they host Adrian in the first round of the MIAA tournament at Stowe Stadium.
