KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team opened the 2018 season with a couple of victories and today capped off a successful opening weekend with an individual accolade as Allen Vinson has been name MIAA Player of the Week.

Vinson, a junior from Tallahassee, Fla., went undefeated over the weekend in Kalamazoo's victories over Oberlin and Wabash. In Saturday's matchup with Oberlin, Vinson paired with Ricardo DelOlmo-Parrado to win 8-5 at two doubles before winning 6-1, 6-2 at four singles to help the Hornets secure the victory.

On Sunday, Vinson and DelOlmo-Parrado were again victorious at two doubles, winning  8-4, and Vinson's 6-1, 6-2 win at four singles clinched the victory over Wabash for K.

Vinson has been an important member of the K team, who entered the weekend ranked 26th nationally, during each of his seasons at Kalamazoo. He is undefeated in MIAA play in his career and was named All-MIAA Second Team after each of first two seasons. This is his second career MIAA Player of the Week selection.

Coach Mark Riley said, "Allen had dominant performances in singles and doubles leading us to a 2-0 start over Oberlin and Wabash. As a 3rd year student athlete, Allen expects to be an excellent leader on and off the court and this is evident in his match play."

The Hornets will travel to Kenyon on Saturday, Feb. 10th for a pair of matches with the first against Kenyon beginning at 8 a.m.
