KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Following a match clinching performance on Sunday, Ricardo DelOlmo-Parrado has been named the men's tennis MIAA Player of the Week.
The Hornets kicked off the week on Tuesday with an 8-1 win over Hope. DelOlmo-Parrado, a junior from Valladolid, Spain, was an 8-1 winner at two doubles and a 6-1, 6-0 winner at four singles in the victory.
On Saturday DelOlmo-Parrado continued his successful week as he paired with Allen Vinson for another 8-1 win at two doubles and then won 6-0, 6-1 at five singles to help K defeat Calvin 9-0.
DelOlmo-Parrado capped off the week in dramatic fashion on Sunday as the Hornets hosted nationally ranked Case Western. As the last player on the court and the match tied 4-4, he clinched the victory for K with a 6-3, 6-2 win at five singles.
Coach Mark Riley said, "Ricardo has been a stellar contributor the entire season hilighted by the winning the deciding match vs #18 Case Western."
Undefeated for his career in MIAA singles and doubles play, DelOlmo-Parrado has helped lead K to a 5-0 start in conference play and sole possession of first place in the MIAA.
He is being honored at MIAA Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
The Hornets will travel to Adrian for their next contest, a 4 p.m. match on Wednesday, April 18th.
