Kalamazoo College's Ian Yi was selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday.

A freshman from Ann Arbor, Mich. (Pioneer HS), Yi advanced to the round of 16 of both the singles and doubles draws of the ITA Central Region Championships held at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. over the weekend.

Yi won his first three singles matches over the weekend before falling to the No. 8 seed in the Round of 16.

Yi and Tytus Metzler advanced to the round of 16 after winning their first two doubles matches.

Coach Mark Riley stated, "Ian is a great addition to our team in both singles and doubles. He performed well verses top nationally ranked competition and already has proven to be an excellent competitor and teammate."

This is Yi's first MIAA Player of the Week honor. His college career has gotten off to a strong start after advancing to the semifinals of the "A" Doubles draw of the Hope Invitational on Sept. 15.

The Hornets are scheduled to open the spring portion of their season on Feb. 2, 2019 against Wabash.
