Five Men's Tennis Players Named All-MIAA

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - After an undefeated 7-0 regular season and a perfect 5-0 mark in MIAA play, the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team placed five members on All-MIAA teams. Daniel Henry, Ian Yi and Casey Johnson were named to the First Team, while Jai Banerji and Gabe Vidinas received Second Team Honors. 

Daniel Henry, a senior from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Kalamazoo Central HS) earned his fourth All-MIAA First Team honor in five seasons with the Hornets. Henry was undefeated at No. 2 singles with a 5-0 record. He partnered with Ian Yi at No. 1 doubles to earn a 6-0 mark. Henry ends his career with the Hornets 63-20 overall in singles play and with an undefeated 24-0 record in MIAA matches.  

Henry was also honored with the Dr. Allen B. Stowe Memorial Award for his leadership quality, exemplification of ethical virtues and sportsmanship. Henry has played No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles with the Hornets for five seasons. As a student, Henry has been an ambassador for the Kalamazoo president's staff, a member of the SAAC committee and a two-time team captain. He will be attending law school this fall. 

Junior Casey Johnson, from Kohler, Wis. (Kohler HS) was named to the All-MIAA First Team for the second time in his career. He suffered just one loss in singles play and was a perfect 4-0 at the No. 3 spot, 2-0 at No. 4. Johnson went undefeated in his doubles matches. The duo of Johnson and Banjeri were 3-0 at No. 2 doubles, and with Dylan Drier at No. 3 he was 2-0. 

Ian Yi also repeated as a member of the All-MIAA First Team. The junior from Ann Arbor, Mich. (Pioneer HS) primarily played at No. 1 singles and dropped just one match to go 5-1 in the regular season. Yi was undefeated with Henry at No. 1 doubles with a 6-0 mark. Yi improves to a career record of 29-10 overall and 11-1 in MIAA play. 

Sophomore Jai Banerji from Battle Creek, Mich. (Lakeview HS) was named to the All-MIAA Second Team for the first time in his career. He finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 mark in singles play. He compiled a 1-0 record at No. 3, 4-0 at No. 4 and 2-0 at No. 5 singles. With Johnson, the duo went 3-0 in their doubles matches at the No. 2 spot.  

Gabe Vidinas, a sophomore from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. (Groves HS) also makes his first appearance on the All-MIAA Second Team. Vidinas went undefeated in his singles matches with a 6-0 record. He primarily played at No. 5 and was 4-0, but also picked up a win at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. He won two matches at No. 2 and 3 doubles with Peter Fitzgerald

The Hornets are set to host No. 4 Trine on Thursday, May 6 in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.
