Men's Tennis Defeats Nazareth in First Round of NCAA III Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team defeated Nazareth College 6-0 in the first round of the NCAA III Championships Friday afternoon at Case Western Reserve University.

Kalamazoo swept the three doubles points before winning three singles matches.

Casey Johnson and Adnan Alousi won 8-0 at two doubles. Gabe Vidinas/Tieran Rafferty won 8-2 at three. Ian Yi/Peter Fitzgerald completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at one.

Alousi won 6-0, 6-0 at five singles. Johnson and Fitzgerald finished simultaneously, with Johnson winning 6-0, 6-1 at four singles and Fitzgerald winning 6-0, 6-0 at three.

Yi was up 6-1, 3-0 at one singles, and Vidinas was up 6-1, 6-2 at two when the match was decided.

Kalamazoo advances to the second round where the Hornets will face Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday not before noon. That match follows the Case Western/Ohio Northern match scheduled for a 9 a.m. start.

Wisconsin-Whitewater narrowly defeated Kalamazoo 5-4 in Kalamazoo on May 1st. The Warhawks enter Saturday's match ranked No. 39 in Division III and seventh in the region. Kalamazoo is ranked eighth in the region.
