Softball splits doubleheader with Comets

OLIVET, MI - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a doubleheader on the road against Olivet today. Kalamazoo is now 8-18 overall this season, and 5-9 in MIAA play.

In game one the Hornets got on the board first with an RBI from Maddy Sinkovich in the top of the third. The Comets would get two runs of their own right back in the bottom of the third. The Comets added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and the Hornets were blanked for the rest of the game.

The Hornets had seven hits total in the game, including doubles from Paige Maguire and Querubin Dubois. The team outhit Olivet but still lost the game 4-1.

In game two the Hornets flashed their power early. Maddy Sinkovich hit a home run to give 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third, then Querubin Dubois hit a three-run home run to give the Hornets a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth

Erin DuRoss hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth that would prove to be the difference in the game as The comets scored a combined four runs in the fifth and sixth. Kalamazoo wound up with the 6-5 victory.

Taylor Clements had a good day from the mound for the Hornets. She threw seven innings while giving up four earned runs and striking out five batters. She got the W.

The Hornets next game is tomorrow at Franklin.
