Softball loses opening games at Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College lost both games of a doubleheader on its first day of competition during the 2016 campaign on Sunday, 7-0 and 13-1 to Franklin College.

The host Grizzlies (6-4) led 3-0 after five innings in the opener before adding four runs in the sixth. Kalamazoo had two runners on in the sixth and seventh innings but was unable to push a run across.

Franklin had 10 hits in the game compared to five for Kalamazoo. Hayleigh Alamo was 2-for-3 for the Hornets while Nori Seita, Kennedy Boulton and Erika Pueblo each had a hit.

Franklin used a pair of big innings to win the second game 13-1. The Grizzlies scored seven runs in the second and sixth in the fourth while limiting Kalamazoo to one run in the third inning.

Isabella Kirck and Andrea MacMichael each had a hit in the game. Kalamazoo scored its run on a double steal by Kirck and Rachel Epstein.

Kalamazoo returns to action with 10 games in Florida over six days beginning March 17.
